I AM NEW TO HORSE RACE BETTING. WHICH BET SHOULD I PLAY FIRST? --There are several types of bets that are available to play. Some bets are more complicated than others. --As a new horse racing fan, you should start off with a Show bet only! 1) It's a good safe bet. You're taking the least risk...compared to remaining types of bets. 2) You have not one, not two, but three chances of winning! 3) If the horse that you selected wins, or comes in second or third position, you're a winner. --Since you are taking a lesser risk, if you have a winning ticket, you will get a lower winning payoff amount compared to other bets. --After you start winning more and you built up your confidence level, you may move onto Place and Win bets.
WHAT IS THE LEAST AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT I CAN PLAY ON A WIN, PLACE, OR SHOW BET? --On a tote board, winning payoff amounts are based on a $2.00 bet. --However, the "minimum bet" amount is one dollar (for most types of bets). --If you're a new horse racing fan, a beginner, or a novice player, you should take advantage of minimum bet amounts. --Instead of playing $2.00 bets, you should play $1.00 Win, Place, or Show bet amounts only. --If you have a winning ticket, you get HALF the winning payoff amount (of what is shown on the tote board). If you don't have a winning ticket, you lost half the amount only! --After you start winning more, you may increase your bet amounts to $2.00 or higher.
