6/20 (Mon) - Our next focus is... Now that Triple Crown races have been completed, our next main focus is the historical Saratoga Race Course! Looking forward to another exciting racing season and the beautiful atmosphere (locally)!

6/14 (Tues) - Post-Belmont Stakes Comments - What an amazing Test of the Champions race! Mo Donegal proved to be the BEST horse in the field and won Belmont Stakes easily! A filly named Nest came in second, and Skippylongstocking came in third.

As stated in my analysis, Todd Pletcher has experience winning the Belmont Stakes and just captured his fourth Belmont Stakes.  Top-notch jockeys Irad Ortiz Jr. and Jose Ortiz finished first and second respectively.  Kudos to Todd Pletcher, Ortiz brothers, and to all the winning connections.  Todd Pletcher trained both of these horses and did an outstanding job!

Irad was very patient, sat off the pace, and pulled away in the stretch! Irad knew he had the horse and guided him well.  Nest performed very well and moved forward (to be second) in the stretch as well.   After having won the Peter Pan Stakes, We the People was listed as morning line favorite at the Belmont draw.  So, what happened that he wasn't the favorite at post time? I think the answer is clear and horse racing fans figured that Mo Donegal had a better chance to win (as I predicted too)! However, I do have to give WTP lots of credit for leading most of the way.  Especially in a super long race, it wasn't an easy task to lead every step of the way and wasn't too surprising that he got slightly tired towards the end.

Rich Strike tried his best and just couldn't perform to everyone's high expectations.  As I stated in my predictions, he was feast or famine, and had to really prove himself.  After the race, the horse owner admitted that his change in tactics of not sticking to the rail and saving ground hurt Rich Strike's chances.  As a long shot, Skippylongstocking did well and was in contention throughout the race.  He performed lot better than what I expected!  Barber Road who did well in earlier Derby prep races against these horses ran poorly and finished a disappointing seventh under the guidance of another top-notch rider Joel Rosario.

As can be seen from my analysis and selections, I predicted well and finished in the TOP TWO positions in all three Triple Crown races: Second with Epicenter in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, and first in the Belmont Stakes!

Overall, it was a VERY good race and the BEST horse won!

6/7 (Tues) - Initial thoughts on Belmont Stakes Draw - From looking at the post positions, my initial thought was: REALLY???  I certainly didn't expect We the People to be the morning line favorite at 2-1 odds!!! We the People became the favorite ONLY because he showed lots of speed and won the Peter Pan stakes race on a wet track by 8 lengths.  To me, this is surprising that he became the morning line favorite after a winning Grade 3 race only! I think Mo Donegal (who ran in one Grade 1 race and two Grade 2 races) deserves to be the favorite instead!!! He has more experience in a higher grade race.  Despite having had a tough post position #1 in the Kentucky Derby, MD overcame a lot and finished not a far distant fifth.  My second thought:  Disappointed that only eight horses are running in the huge race.  I figured that at least ten horses would participate :-( Anyways, check out my analysis and selections on Thursday (6/9) night!

6/1 (Wed) - Stay tuned for my Belmont analysis and selections - Official draw for the Belmont Stakes will take place on June 7th (Tues).  Then, we will know exactly how many horses are running and which post position each horse will run from! Afterwards, I'll conduct my analysis and selections and post them by Thursday night.  I will provide my BEST long shot as well.  Actually, I decided to let you know NOW!!! ....Watch out for Barber Road.  He has a very good shot to be in the top three (for triples) or four positions (for superfecta)! He is 15-1 morning line odds and may end up going to around 20-1 odds.  Plus, jockey Joel Rosario picked up his mount on Barber Road; clearly a great asset! :-)

NOTE: Did well in the Derby AND Preakness with my key horse Epicenter as my top selection; used him for exactas (front and back).  Since Epicenter is not running in the Belmont Stakes, I will have to select a different horse!
